Your knees are the largest and among the most important joints in your body. They allow you to bend and straighten your legs as well as providing stable support to the rest of your body, all of which is necessary to walk, jump, turn, and even just to stand.
Your knees are also among the most complex joints in your body! The knee joint is made up of bones, cartilage, muscles, ligaments, and tendons. With so many different components working together, a small injury to one part of your knee can lead to major problems. The most common knee injuries include fractures around the knee, dislocation, and sprains and tears of soft tissues, like ligaments. Many knee injuries occur often while participating in sports, namely injuries to the anterior and posterior cruciate ligament as well as injuries to the collateral ligament and meniscus.
Knee injuries often require you to see an orthopedic knee surgeon, as they can have a tremendous impact on your overall mobility. If you’ve recently suffered a knee injury or have been living with knee pain, it’s time to see a professional!
